Oral History Training Opportunity: Volunteer for Gires’ new Trans project
Are you interested in queer history, storytelling, and archives? We are looking for volunteers to gather stories about the Gender Identity Research and Education Society (GIRES).
Facilitated by Dr Verusca Calabria.
Volunteers will be interviewing a range of people who have been connected with GIRES from the 1990s to present. You will record these rich and vibrant stories to inform the archive, events and exhibition outputs.
Before starting the interviews, we will give you free training to learn about effective interview techniques, ethics and using recording equipment.
Tasks will include:
- Background preparation and research for the (audio)interview
- Conducting and recording one-to-one interviews (between May and September 2022)
- Transcribing and processing the interview content
- Ethics, do’s and dont’s
- Working with the project team as well as any other individuals to achieve project goals.
Some of the interviews will be recorded online. You may need to travel to different UK locations to carry out in-person interviews; we will reimburse your travel expenses.
As part of your training we will arrange a short induction session online, which includes health and safety, and an introduction you to the organisation.
The two main training units will be in-person at Bishopsgate Institute, London EC2M 4QH
