SUMMARY:VOICES: Recording Trans History for the Future. An LGBT History Month World Premier
DESCRIPTION:Voices: Recording History for the Future – A film capturing the stories of the Gender Identity Research and Education Society\nJoin us for a world premier at the Cinema Museum London at LGBT+ History Month 2023! \nWhen Bernard and Terry Reed’s child was born\, they had no idea that a mere two decades later\, they would be faced with a huge and very difficult challenge. \nTheir child was transgender and would suffer appalling abuse at the hands of her co-workers. Dinah Rose KC (pictured in the photo above\, right hand side) is the barrister who helped the Reed family win a landmark sex discrimination case against the employer that did nothing to support Niki Reed despite knowing that she was suffering. \nThe UK charity The Gender Identity Research and Education Society GIRES) was established in 1997\, to protect other trans people from similar abuse. GIRES has been instrumental in several positive changes to trans rights in the UK\, but is keenly aware that much more needs to be done. \nA Legacy of Kindness (LoK)\, is a project that has set out to capture the many voices of those involved with GIRES throughout its 25-year history. \nDinah Rose KC\, now President of Magdalen College\, Oxford\, said at interview: “I very much hope if it’s a time capsule that people looking at it will be looking at it from a society that’s more easily able to accommodate and include difference without violence and hate.” \nAs part of the LGBT+ History Month\, GIRES\, Schools Out and the Cinema Museum are inviting you to see and hear the people whose voices have been captured. \nJoin us for this world premier! \nAfter the film\, there will be a chance to ask questions of a panel of GIRES stakeholders. \nSpecial guests include Jake & Hannah Graf\, The UK’s most influential LGBT Power Couple” – The Guardian \nWhen: 28th February 2023 \nTime: 7:30 pm until 9:00 pm       Doors Open: 6:30 pm \nCost: Free – Donations welcome \nA finger buffet is available from 6:30 pm. A range of drinks can be purchased from the bar. \nLimited places  –  Entry only ticketed (free): https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/gires-lok-goes-to-the-cinema-museum-tickets-537755941497 \nA Legacy of Kindness is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
